Dogs are humanity’s best friend and we love to spoil them! While we might think that the only way to spoil our beloved friends is with dairy and meat products, that couldn’t be further from the truth! Here are some vegan ways to spoil your pup year round! Here are some American Kennel Club recommendations for plant based approved treats.
Carrots:
Whether cooked or frozen, dogs love munching on carrots! Teething puppies use fresh or frozen carrots to soothe their sore gums! Fresh carrots can be cooked into homemade dog food or added to their meals! Carrots are packed with Vitamin A and serve as a low cost and low calorie edible chew toy! Make sure to supervise your dog while eating treats to prevent choking.
The age old dog favorite: Peanut Butter!!! Everyone knows dogs love peanut butter, preferably in small amounts, and it's packed with healthy fats, vitamins B and E! One important thing to mention: check to make sure your store bought peanut butter does not have xylitol. According to the AKC, “ Xylitol is a sugar substitute often found in sugar-free products like chewing gum, toothpaste, breath mints, chewable vitamins and baked goods. It is safe for people, but toxic to dogs.”
